Humanoid Robots Hit Mass Production With Geopolitical Fallout

Between mid-2025 and mid-2026, humanoid robots crossed from trade-show curiosity to industrial reality: Tesla has shipped more than 50,000 Optimus units, China produced 40,000 humanoids in the first half of 2026, and Hyundai has committed 25,000 Atlas robots to its factories. The speed of the rollout has already triggered the first recorded humanoid labour strike, US and FCC import bans on Chinese-made units, and China deploying robots along its Vietnam border. The military and geopolitical dimensions of the race are now as prominent as the economic ones.
