South Korea shatters heat record; US wildfires force mass evacuations
South Korea recorded its highest temperature in more than a century on Sunday — 42.5°C in the city of Yangsan — marking the fifth consecutive day above 40°C, prompting authorities to ban all outdoor activity. Simultaneously, wildfires around Spokane, Washington forced 60,000 people to evacuate and destroyed at least 600 structures across roughly 21 square kilometres.
