Virginia bans sale of geolocation data effective now
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has signed S.B. 388 into law, explicitly prohibiting the sale of geolocation data and bringing Virginia in line with Maryland and Oregon. The law took effect July 1, 2026, and companies operating in the state must now audit their data pipelines to ensure no location-based personal data is being exchanged for money.
