New scan could transform endometriosis diagnosis

A small clinical trial has shown that a radiotracer called maraciclatide can light up endometriosis lesions on a non-invasive scan, potentially replacing the surgical investigation currently required for diagnosis. Women with the condition wait an average of several years for a confirmed diagnosis, largely because laparoscopic surgery is the only reliable current method. The trial included 19 women and was published alongside calls to fast-track further research.
