UK Launches Audit of 200,000 Carer Benefit Cases
The UK government is launching an audit of more than 200,000 historical carer's allowance cases after a welfare injustice scandal drew comparisons to the Post Office Horizon affair. Roughly 25,000 carers are estimated to have been wrongly hit with repayment demands, but ministers have admitted thousands more will continue facing those demands while the review runs its course. The audit begins Monday, with unpaid carers — already among the most financially stretched households — left in limbo.
