Meta uses public Instagram photos for AI image training

Meta has launched Muse, a new AI image generator, and quietly folded public Instagram photos into its training data — users must actively opt out to stop their content being used. The default-on approach has drawn immediate criticism, as it means most of the platform's roughly two billion users are contributing to commercial AI model training without ever agreeing to it. Meta framed the rollout as unlocking new creative and advertising tools.
