UN halts Hormuz evacuations after vessel struck by projectile

The International Maritime Organization has suspended its coordinated evacuation of ships through the Strait of Hormuz after a vessel was hit by a projectile off the coast of Oman, casting doubt on the safety guarantees underpinning the entire operation. The pause leaves a backlog of stranded tankers in the Persian Gulf in limbo at one of the world's most critical oil shipping chokepoints. The IMO says safety assurances must be reconfirmed before movement resumes.
