Scottish Tories win Aberdeen South in shock result
The Scottish Conservatives have pulled off their first Westminster by-election win in over 50 years, flipping the SNP's formerly safe seat of Aberdeen South. Douglas Lumsden won on a platform defending the North Sea oil and gas industry, beating SNP incumbent Richard Thomson by 6,050 votes with a 14.69% swing. The result lands the same night as the Makerfield by-election, where Andy Burnham was eyeing a win as a springboard to challenge Keir Starmer for Labour leadership.
