Gunmen massacre 29 at football pitch in Nigeria

Armed attackers killed at least 29 people gathered at a football pitch in Adamawa state, north-east Nigeria, in the latest episode of escalating violence in Africa's most populous country. The state borders Cameroon and is a known flashpoint for jihadist groups and criminal gangs. The attack follows a separate armed raid on an orphanage in Kogi state.
