Alibaba's Qwen captures half of open-source AI downloads

Alibaba Cloud's Qwen model family has crossed 1 billion cumulative downloads and now accounts for more than 50% of all global open-source AI model downloads, cementing Chinese dominance in a space once led by Western labs. The data, from US newsletter Interconnects AI, marks a striking geopolitical shift in who is building the foundation models that developers worldwide actually use.
